Sleepover

Now that the holidays are officially over, my cousins and I are looking forward to a sleepover at my house. Yes that means lots of junk food like chocolate and popcorn and chick flicks after midnight. I might even be tempted to make chocolate flavoured popcorn. Having not seen my cousins for a few weeks although it feels like months, I am looking forward to seeing them again.
Having told my mum my plan, she’s already gone out and done all my food shopping for me. She’s bought all my favourite snacks and drinks. Although, me being me, I’ve already eat half the stuff she bought. So I guess I’ll have to do the shopping again. Sigh.
Although instead of going to the shops to buy food, I might just stay home and make some cookies and cakes instead. I mean honestly who wants to go food shopping in this weather? Not me that’s for sure. If I’m feeling generous then I might allow my cousins in the kitchen to help out.
The only real problem now is how to distract my brothers and keep them out of the house while my cousins stay over. The only reason for this is that all my cousins staying over for the sleepover are girls only so that means no boys allowed. Brothers or no. Absolutely no boys allowed. I mean if I was staying over for a girly sleepover at my cousins or friends house then I wouldn’t want their brothers in the house sneaking up on us or checking on us to see what we’re up to, so in that respect I would have to pay the same courtesy to my cousins that they would pay me.
Anyways, carry on reading my blogs and tune in next week to find out how the sleepover went and my plans for the New Year.

Holidays Plans

It’s the final week of the semester. YAY! This means that I’ve got a 3 week break coming up after Friday’s classes. After the Friday classes, a group of my friends and I are going pit for dinner. This is just a celebration for all the hard work we have done and all that we achieved over the past few weeks. I am looking forward to this little get together as it’s a chance to get to know one another on a personal level. Although we all study the same subjects as each other – maths,
This year, my family and I have got a lot planned for the Christmas break. After many years of working non- stop my mum will get a full two week break for the holidays. So she has planned with my brother to go to visit her relatives. While this may sound exciting, I’m not so sure. Having not seen mum’s relatives for over 8 years, it can be a pretty daunting experience. My brother of course is thrilled as it means a chance for him to escape from revision. This is a bad choice seeing as he has exams coming up in early January. But there you go, boys are always looking for an escape route, especially when they’ve got important deadlines looming over them. Although meeting family over the holidays has become a tradition in my family over the last few years, mainly because it’s during the holidays that everyone’s quite free – well freer than usual, it’s a good chance to catch up on everyone else.
My idea of an ideal Christmas holiday is to sit back and catch up on the box. It seems ages ago since when i could sit in front of the television and watch loads of movies without abandon. Well now’s my chance to catch up. I’m especially, looking forward to watching the new Harry Potter film and Eclipse. Yes, I do know these particular movies were released a while ago, but what can you do? See, I told you I was behind.

Weather

Two more weeks to go then term is officially over. Hoorah! Even though it’s no longer snowing, the weather is still quite chilly. Even so, the snowy weather conditions have not entirely cleared up as it’s quite foggy and slippery on the roads, so watch your step everyone. There are still patches of sleet and ice on the roads.
Due to the adverse weather conditions, I was allowed coursework extensions last week; however I didn’t take it because I wanted to just get it over and done with. See that’s the thing with me, I don’t like to extend things and submit coursework after the official deadline even if I am allowed to. I just like to get things over and done with, never to look at it again. Handing in coursework late, even with permissions makes me stressed, anxious and paranoid. At least the good thing about submitting it on time is that I can also receive my mark on time. I really hope that I get a good mark as I put a lot of effort and energy into that piece of work.
I’m really looking forward to the Christmas holidays, when I can just sit back and relax and not have to worry about coursework, just for those three weeks. All I want to do is spend time with my family and catch up on gossip with my friends from college. Yes, it’s true; I’m looking for a distraction from university related activities.
As the days are growing shorter and darkness approaches us earlier, I’m just looking to escape from it all and do something different. Not sure what I want to do yet, so we shall have to wait and see.

Coursework Deadlines

Although the Christmas holidays are approaching us, it’s not all fun and games. Coursework deadlines are also fast approaching. Having already submitted 2 pieces of coursework already, I still have another two assignments to submit. The holidays will be a welcome distraction to the mounting work I have to complete.  Coursework this year is far more challenging than last year. Of course it does not help that multiple coursework’s need to be completed at the same time. Nevertheless, it’s bound to get harder next term. This is already evident as i was made aware yesterday, that I will need to submit some coursework at the end of the first week of the next term.
Busy time call for drastic measures. By putting quality time aside to complete coursework is crucial in ensuring that I achieve good marks in all my assignments.  By gaining high marks in my assignments, I will gain confidence in my ability to master the subject of mathematics and will also encourage and motivate me to revise topics in greater detail to perform well in my final examinations.
Academic work aside, it’s snowing today. Although I’m stating the obvious, I thought just point out that the weather conditions are harsh. People travelling to work or school should allow extra time for their journey, or better yet don’t turn up at all. The snow is a welcome at certain points of the year, like nearer to the Christmas holidays, when most people don’t have places to go or people to see.

Uni Life

Hi! This is my first blog, so I hope it goes down well.
University life extremely busy time this month with lots of coursework deadlines looming over us.  This can be quite difficult to manage sometimes as there are more than one coursework to complete at a time. Why do lecturers give out coursework every two of receiving the previous one? Studying Mathematics does have its moments, however it can be incredibly frustrating when there’s a problem which is difficult to solve. Obviously this year being my second year, things are bound to be difficult, however everything has fallen into place and I aim to achieve my potential throughout the next two years.
Completing coursework’s may be challenging, but if I think I’m having a difficult time now, then it’s bound to get tougher later through the year. Thinking about exams, brings a sense of relief that not the entire course is based upon exams only. In my opinion, exams are harder than coursework because it is easier to make mistakes working under pressure, not to mention the time constraints.
There are lots of advantages about studying mathematics as a degree. The excitement and sense of achievement of solving a particularly tricky problem can be extremely satisfying. I am extremely lucky to be surrounded by good friends who help me to keep focused and motivate me to complete my work at the earliest opportunity.
Studying maths provides me with opportunities to a wide variety of jobs. The purpose of me studying this degree is to secure a job in my later life.  The main focus for me now is to get through my second year, with good marks, and then can I only think about my future.
Thank you for reading my blog.
